Washington Letter on ‘Douglas Row.” [The Hancock Jeffersonian, 26 Feb, 1869, p. 2]

Gen. Grant’s Successor.

It seems that Lieut. Gen Sherman will succeed to Gen. Grant’s domicile, no less than to his office, the committee of gentlemen appointed to procure for and present to the Lieut. General a residence for him in this city, having purchased Gen. Grant’s residence, furniture and all, on I Street, in the “Douglas Row,” nearly due north from the Capitol. – This block of dwellings was built by the then Senators Douglass, Breckenridge and a third party whose name I do not now recall, for their own residences.
